OELO hosts Second Annual World Environment Day 2015

June 13, 2015, OELO celebrated its second annual World Environment Day at Collège Privé Noel Ikapi Iwangou in Lambaréné. Nature clubs from two schools and three churches enthusiastically hosted stands to sell their environmentally conscious art pieces to fund next year’s projects and to promote conservation of protected species in Gabon. OELO welcomed prestigious guests including the Mayor Roger Valère Ayimambenwe, School Superintendent Guy Roger Ekazama, Departmental Council representative Michel Tchibinda, a representative of the Governor of Moyen-Ogooué, manatee researcher Lucy Keith Diagne, and many others to join in the festivities.

OELO will post the billboard at Marché Isaac, the main bushmeat, restaurant, and vegetable market in town. At the main intersection at Carrefour Isaac, the mural was created in partnership with the mayor's office of Lambaréné, and a Conservation Leadership Programme grant awarded to OELO co-founder Cyrille Mvele to raise awareness about the slender-snouted crocodile. Beneath the mural, OELO donated two brand new benches for public use.

To promote environmental awareness, each club put on presentations for the audience, from comical skits, to energetic dances and original songs. The groups showed terrific enthusiasm in their performances and were presented with gifts of school supplies. The 24 most motivated students won two trips to Tsam Tsam.
