Evaluating Success

OELO distributes questionnaires in our EE classes to monitor attitude changes and knowledge with time. Early results from our baseline surveys indicate that a majority of students indicates someone in their family hunts species fully protected by Gabonese law including forest elephants, African manatees, gorillas, chimpanzees, hippos, giant pangolin, and forest buffalo. In some upper level highshool classes, a majority of boys admits to hunting protected species and dozens openly admit to hunting elephant and great apes. We hope that as our program continues we will see a decline in hunting of protected species and greater environmental stewardship by the next generation of Lambaréné residents!
